The Key

This painting is one I have painted several times in different sizes for different people.  I love the simplicity of it - its just an old key hanging on a piece of string from a nail in a wall.  But to me, keys have significance.  Keys open things and lock things up.  If there is only one key to a door then only the keyholder can have access.  When I look at this I'm reminded of the verses in Matthew 16:19  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

I also think of Revelation 3:8

“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

I love the fact that God doesn't require us to be super spiritual and have everything together before He opens the next door.  He just needs us to have a little strength, to do what He tells us to do and to acknowledge Him for who He is.   When God opens a door NOBODY can close it.  How great is that?
